Each of our Board members brings a unique perspective and diverse experience to the team. We are all united and guided by our overarching passion and mission to drive inclusion and gender equality in the workplace.
Joy Oremule
A successful Caymanian HR professional, Joy Oremule has experience in many areas. As Manager, HR & Employee Development at Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd, she plays a n integral role in the company's success.
As a graduate of Eckerd College, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Business. She is pursuing a Master's in Human Resources at the University College of the Cayman Islands. She has recently completed a level five certification in International Leadership and Management (ILM).
She is actively involved in her community through various projects and initiatives. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals (CISHRP). She has been a member of the GEC Board since 2021.
She is committed to supporting, empowering, engaging, and developing gender equity in the workplace.
Sarah Humpleby
Sarah joined the Board in 2023. Sarah has also been very involved with 100 Women in Finance having been on the launch committee for the Mid-Career Group in 2020, on which she now serves as co-chair.
As an advocate for equity, she is a member of several global industry bodies, such as the International Association for Women in Aviation and the Advancing Women in Aviation Roundtable network, and is passionate about facilitating a level playing field for future generations.
Dr. Lance Barnes
Dr. Lance Barnes is the Head of Information Communication Technology (ICT) for the Ministry of Education, where he leads the team responsible for ICT services across all government schools. He has held several senior roles within the Cayman Islands Government and has contributed significantly to developing civil servants through leadership and educational programs.
He holds a doctoral degree in leadership and crisis management, a master’s in management with a focus on human resources, and a bachelor’s degree with honors in computer science. Dr. Barnes also serves as an adjunct lecturer at both of the islands’ universities.
Committed to community service, he served as president of the Cayman Islands Athletic Association from 2017 to 2021.
Stephanie Byrne
With real enthusiasm for continuous improvement and a strong passion for people development, Steph has worked globally across the private, public & non-profit sectors in diverse cultural and social environments.
Her professional background is in the engineering and construction industry, where she has gained extensive experience in developing and delivering a range of projects and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, from senior officials and local governments to young children and apprentices.
Committed to making a lasting positive impact, Steph has joined the board to expand her advocacy for gender equality and ensure a sustainable and equitable future for generations to come.
Steph takes a systems approach, with an ability to think critically and hollistically, to tackle issues and provides valuable insights to help drive meaningful change.
Sarah Blake
Sarah joined the GEC Board in 2022, driven by a genuine passion for gender equity and a commitment to creating fairer, more inclusive workplaces.
With an academic background rooted in the social dimensions of gender, Sarah holds a Master of Research in Security, Conflict, and Human Rights from the University of Bristol, where her research focused on the safety and security of women in urban spaces. This foundation has shaped the way she approaches people-centred work in her professional life.
Sarah currently works as HR Manager at Tenet, a fintech firm in the Cayman Islands, where she brings her values of equity and inclusion into everyday people practice. She joined the GEC Board to turn that professional commitment into broader community impact -advocating for systemic change and a more equal future for women across the Cayman Islands.
Alanna Warwick-Smith
Alanna joined the Board in 2026. She currently works as Manager, Social Media & Brand at Cayman Finance.
Alanna served as a Director of the Cayman Islands Society for Human Resource Professionals (2018–2020), the Cayman Islands Marketing Professionals Association (2020–2022), and as President of Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands (2020–2021).
In 2022, Alanna received “Proud of Them” recognition from the Cayman Islands Government for her efforts and achievements in community service.
She is the 2025–2027 Young Business & Professional Women’s Club Representative for the Cayman Islands. BPW Grand Cayman is part of BPW International, a global NGO with consultative status at the United Nations on international issues affecting women and gender equality.
Vernon Webb III
Vernon joined the GEC Board driven by a strong commitment to governance, financial integrity, and fostering equitable and inclusive professional environments across the Cayman Islands.
With an extensive background spanning fund fiduciary services, trust and corporate administration, tax, and financial services regulation, Vernon has built his career across some of the Cayman Islands' most prominent financial institutions, including CIMA, a Big Four audit firm, and leading trust and corporate service providers. This breadth of experience has shaped a sharp regulatory mindset and deep commercial awareness.
Vernon currently serves as Assistant Vice President in Directorship Services at Ocorian, where he continues to uphold high standards of governance and fiduciary responsibility. He holds an MBA from the International College of the Cayman Islands and is a CIMA-registered Professional Director with an Accredited Directorship Designation.
